The Leap I Took at 27 (and what it taught me about money)

When I was 27, I walked away from a job that gave me great benefits, retirement matching, and a 6-figure salary. I walked away because I wanted to try something new. So I stepped away from 9-5 work for a time, and explored other interests.
It was a difficult choice to make, because it felt like my future financial security was on the line.
But the truth was that I had saved enough, I was on track for my goals for my life, and I was spending a reasonable amount. I was in a prime position to take a leap of faith. I had a lot of mastery around keeping a budget, saving, and investing. When I was younger, I saved and saved, invested large portions of my earnings, and didn't like spending money. This moment in my life, at 27 years old, was pivotal because I learned how to spend the money I had worked hard to earn, to support me to go for a dream.
Taking this leap paid off. I exited slowly and with care. I maintained relationships. I set myself up with savings to explore and find what was next. I followed my intuition that I wanted to learn life coaching, meditation, and yoga. These practices have been life-changing and life-altering, and brought me inner peace and resilience that I didn't know was possible. Along the way I also landed a role at an emerging non-profit and got to do incredible political work that was fulfilling and exciting.
What I learned was about balance. Anything can be excessive. Too much saving, not enough enjoyment. Too much enjoyment, not enough saving.
Life is like a mandala of experience. A well lived life is one that has all the colors, textures, and seasons. When I left my job, I entered a season of taking a leap and learning trust. This helped bring me into balance. Now, I spend money with more ease, letting money create enjoyment in my life. I also save and invest, and live within my means.
Moving courageously with money will look very different for each person. It depends on our dreams, life stage, where we are in excess, and where we are deficient.
What season of money are you in? What skill is asking to be learned next?
This is what I guide in 1:1 Financial Coaching. Financial coaching contains all the wisdom of my lived experience and education in this arena. It's not just practical, and it's not just emotional. I guide clients through a process to engage their most wise self in the realms of money, becoming a steward of resources. I guide clients to see what life stage they are in, equipping themselves with information and education about finances, and support to take the necessary steps to create financial abundance for themselves and their families.
This is a personal, spiritual, and practical journey. I love this work because it's where the rubber meets the road of doing inner work. We can do shadow work until the cows come home... and when it comes to creating something, building a legacy, and building something the world needs, it's our real-world skills and responsibility that are going to make it come true.
